Small businesses are everywhere, but only a few actually have made it to the top. Obviously, if you are like me, you look at a small business as a sizable investment because no matter how small it is, there is still a start-up cost to pay. In this day and age, people are looking to save as much money as they can. Unfortunately, the economy isn’t what it used to be and people have had to adjust. But yet, even in these hectic times, time is till moving forward, and everyone is looking to become an entrepreneur.

Business owners and entrepreneurs are notoriously optimistic about their businesses and that is often the key to their success — optimism creates the energy needed to tackle inevitable business challenges. But optimism should not come at the expense of prudent planning, particularly when it comes to seasonal slowdowns.
Some small business ideas are seasonal in nature. If you pick the right business you can work really hard for a couple months out of the year and take it easy the rest of the year. That doesn’t usually mean you’re not working at all, there’s usually quite a bit of preparation the rest of the year for those few months of crazy business. Stores are stocking Christmas decorations before Halloween. Radio stations started playing non-stop Christmas music since the start of ‘ber’ months. Families spent mapping out their vacations and Noche Buenas. We’re inching our way closer and closer to Christmas. Folks are busying decorating their homes inside and out, which means it’s time to decorate our house with Christmas tree, lanterns, lights, etc. But during a year full of economic obstacles, will folks be buying? |

The December and January period is normally a slow time for small-to-medium sized businesses, with most customers on holidays, suppliers operating on skeleton staff and budgets on hold.
In business, we all struggle with highs and lows, but for seasonal businesses – those that make the bulk of their profits at certain times of the year – knowing how to optimize the lows while riding the highs requires a particularly innovative and diligent entrepreneur at the helm.
It’s Christmas, a time when people want to shop.
