PCAMRD - BFAR 23-09-09

Sub;-Please note under : Guide to Freshwater Shrimp (Ulang) Culture / Green water technology;-

As we are already culturing fresh water jumbo prawns (Malcomsoni) at our farms in Sindh Karachi Pakistan with fry caught from the wild.

While going through the text for the above culture noticed under

"Water Culture/ Fertilization
After installing the pens, the ponds should be filled with seawater to a maximum depth of 1.0-1.2 meters"

We would like to know (if this is a miss print or) does this species of fresh water shrimp (ulang) are cultured in sea water? if so with what PPT 20-40?

Thanks and regards,

Hi Leo!

About how many hatchlings are needed/ recommended per hectare? And do you have any estimate of how much capital needed for a 2 hectare pond and any known supplier of hatchlings in Samar, Calbayog City in particular? Thanks again man!
