Duck Raising is a lucrative livestock industry in the Philippines because of its egg. Its most important product, the balut (boiled incubated duck’s egg), is sold daily throughout the archipelago for its delicious flavor and nutritive value.

Duck raising is especially recommended in baytowns like those bordering the shores of Laguna de Bay, where there are abundant supplies of fresh water snails which make good duck food.

good pm.im from bicol and my father used to be in the duck poultry business 7 years ago.. i could recall he was doing good with the business until a typhoon which had tricken the bicol area. the aftermath of these typhoon resulted into a drastic decline in the egg production. he tried to revived the business by reconditioning the ducks… spending for the feeds and suffering heavy loss with less than 10% egg output. the ducks was only a year old and they started to loss feathers (as we cald here “doro”). he tought that when the ducks have passsed the stress period production would gradualy increase. unfortunatley after 2 months production was still low. since feeding was done in a poultry manner with no natural feeds or the gabay style, his 6,000 duckfarm came into a loss. Im interested to know about how to surpass the feather fall period of a duck and what must be done in order for the ducks to recperate from this period. my wife is interested to start with the same business like my father did but im worried of passing though the same problem as my father did.

Good day sir Leo need your comment if it will net the same as 140~150 pesos per itik kung mag raise ako ng cejo poultry type at hindi pagala? Or if you had try it before at kung anong pakain binigay nyo para tipid? Thanks po in advance!

    • Leo says:

@Gerick, konti lang kasi ang inalagaan ko before, sort of hobby lang. may isang nagpapastol, ginagala sa palayan after palay harvest. we also give snails. supplement na lang yung commercial feeds.

  14. cherry says:

    Hi sir Leo,
I am on the itik eggs production right now. I have 800 female and 80 male itik but they just only lay egg almost 300pcs a day. I am feeding them pure blend feeds 2 1/2 bags per day sa food palang po lugi na ako wala akong kinikita.Binili ko ang mga itik on Feb. then nag start silang mag lay egg March then April tumaas ang production nila 650 above every day til May 2nd week. then bigla nalang bumaba 3rd week of May naging 450 pababa hanggang nung June naging less than 100pcs nalang every day, sabi nila normal lang daw un kase 9mos nagpapalit ng feather at 1mos lang un pero bakit hanggang ngaun Sept na d parin tumataas ang pangingitlog nila. Salamat !

    • Leo says:

@cherry, maraming pwedeng maging dahilan bakit bumaba ang egg production. meron ka bang manual or program na sinusunod sa pag aalaga ng itik? or is it based on experience lang?

Is this the right time to buy itik ?

          • Leo says:

@lovely, 5-6 months nangingitlog na. anytime is a right time provided that your location is good for raising ducks. pls read “Related Posts” and go through all the comments for other tips and advice.
