Duck Raising Business Guide
April 24, 2009 by Leo 8,769 Views
Duck Raising is a lucrative livestock industry in the Philippines because of its egg. Its most important product, the balut (boiled incubated duck’s egg), is sold daily throughout the archipelago for its delicious flavor and nutritive value.
Duck raising is especially recommended in baytowns like those bordering the shores of Laguna de Bay, where there are abundant supplies of fresh water snails which make good duck food.

how much money will be needed to start this business?
is there any disadvantages in this one?whats the risk?
@xyza freya baguilod, total investment will depend on the number of heads you plan to raise. recommended is at least 2,000 heads for a good profit. initial investment is roughly 330k for 2,000 ready-to-lay pullets and cage, assuming that you have your own lot. daily net profit is roughly P1,600 or 48k/month.

to adonis de guzman, for 450 ducks you need to feed them 1 1/4 bag of feeds, 1 bag of feed cost 900+. so gagastos ka ng 1200 a day. kung ang itik mo ay umiitlog ng 80percent x 5.50 per egg = kita mo -minus gastos mo sa isang araw. yong matitira ang profit mo a day.
thanks po for the info. i’ll try it right away. thank you very much.
hi! Mr. Leo, i currently have 450 ducks that is strictly for egg production. They lay about 350 eggs per day that is when the fields are available for them to scour foods. but during farming season, i only feed them feeds bought in the market. my problem is that it doesnt yield as many eggs as they do when the fields are open for pasture. now, i have read in an article that if you give them manufactured feeds, you could at least have a 60:40 profit. I mean, 60% goes to buying feeds and 40% is profit. but i dont know how much feeds do i have to feed 450 ducks per day in order for them to produce eggs that would give me a 40% profit? could you please help me? I just started last year and i havent figured it out yet. please, i really need help.
@adonis de guzman, i can’t offer you expert advice but i can point you to some resources who can provide answers:

@Kenn, i’m not sure if 10k is profitable enough to raise ducks. is it just a hobby or testing the business? where are you located? the price of feeds these days is discouraging for some duck raisers. better check this forum and ask from the real expert:

@Kenn, i’m not sure about the current price for the drake, but for ready-to-lay duck, the price range here in bulacan is P130-140.
Hi, I’m rico. We’re from Quezon and I’m planning to get into the duck raising business as well but I have no idea on where I can get ready-to-lay ducks that are just of the right age.. I know of somebody who bought ducks that are already laying eggs for almost a year so its production period was short.
I can supply if you are still interested.
