Hello. Kindly check your data on phenology of kaong. I planted an uprooted seedling in 1998 here in Gen. Santos City and the plant started flowering in 6 or 7 years. I have already outplanted several seedlings propagated from the original plant and is set to establish a one-hectare kaong farm in South Cotabato. Thanks.

I just want to ask, is there any information on pest infestation on Sugar palm? Actually, we have encountered a problem. Our young planting materials have been died because of ants or any pests that may be responsible for the death of young seedlings. The Pith has been eaten by these possible responsible pests. Can you please help me on this matter? Thank you very much…

is there a process for removing kaong seeds from its shell? do you just boil it and peel off the shell?

how do you make it into sweetened kaong? is it similar with sweetened banana?

I would like to thank you for the information on kaong. It is a shame that I, a native of the Philippines only know how to eat the sweetened irok but didn’t know anything about it and what’s worse was it is grown mostly in Indang, Cavite, which is a neighboring town of Naic, where I come from. I often wondered what its tree and fruit looked like. Thanks to you, now I know something about irok as we call it in Cavite.

To Mr. Leo,

I noticed two different photos which you claim being the kaong. The second photo of the fruit showing 3 nuts per fruit is I believe the real kaong. However, the first photo of the plant showng the fruit bunch is to me seem not kaong but a Nipa or a mangrove spcies. Is this correct? I was in Mindoro 10 years ago and I saw many kaong bunches about a meter or more in length unlike the first photo which shows a circular or rounded fruit bunch.

If my observation is correct, please replace the photo accordingly.
