Tilapia are sometimes known as “aquatic chicken”, due to their high growth rates, adaptability to a wide range of environmental conditions, ability to grow and reproduce in captivity and feed on low trophic levels. As a result, these fishes have become excellent candidates for aquaculture, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. Indeed, tilapia culture has been expanding rapidly, and is now practiced in more than one hundred countries worldwide.

Im in South Florida, USA, And would like to start a small tiliapia research mini farm from home. I am totally new to this field and would like advise on where to start first. All advise is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Leo ask ko lang ano ang feeds na karaniwang pinapakain sa fingerlings?
@manny, pwede commercial feeds, pwede rin self-mix feeds. pwede rin wala. depende sa stocking ratio ng tilapia sa fishpond.
Hi Leo.. thanks for your very good articles refer sa comment mo about self-mix feeds do you have any idea paano gawin un? Actually the tilapia is already 201days with all the correct feeding still maliit pa rin for commercial sale dyahe naman super mahal if continue ako ng grower and finisher. Thanks hope u can give me additional info about self mix feeds. thanks ulit
@Sha, there’s an instructional manual/book you can buy at TRC: 727-6205 or Marid Digest: 373-4446 about self-mix feeds for poultry and aquaculture. the price is around P300.
Tanong ko lang po about feedings calculation sa mga tilapia fo about 10,000 stocks.starting po lang kasi ako.
maraming salamat
@arnold, feeding ratio is 30-35% of body weight. feeding time is morning and afternoon, always on the same spot and the same time.

Good and wonderful site, I was brought up in a community where Tilapia is the staple food for all family members. I am a community worker and very much moved to protect and enlarge the production of Tilapia in fish ponds.
I have realized the aquatic life of the tilapia is being depleted and the fisherman in the Lake Victoria has become a hunter for fish which is becoming minimal.
I bought a land near the Lake shore and would want to put up fish pond to help the people have sustainable food income in the future.
I am not an expert in fish farming but would want training, support, and additional information to help me start fish farming in this Land. My dream can boast local sustainability and a pure clean market for families who are really in need of food, a children’s Center and women in old age. I have worked in the community for 13 years and would want another food boaster for Malnourished people and orphans.
Can i get an expert to help me get started. Hints can make it important.
I hope to get more information.
Samwel
@blue heaven farm, check the following list of chemical suppliers:
http://www.filipinolinks.com/Agriculture/Fertilizers_and_Agricultural_Chemicals/index.html
We are looking for chemical treatments to clear the water from the fishpond. Do you have any information and suggestions regarding this matter. Thanks and more power. Were looking forward to your reply. God bless.
Hello sir,
Please comment on my questions. Thanks
1.) I’m not sure if my perception of fish farming is something like this.
Fingerlings -> Matured Fish -> Breed -> Segregate new fingerlings from matured fish -> Sell matured -> Grow fingerlings?
2.) If so, how do you segregate the matured tilapia, from the new fingerlings?
Meron akong piggery 5 pens po pwede ko po bang iconvert yun as cement tank wala po kaya akong magiging problema mostly nakikita ko circular tank kong square ok lang po ba?
salamat po
