Tilapia are sometimes known as “aquatic chicken”, due to their high growth rates, adaptability to a wide range of environmental conditions, ability to grow and reproduce in captivity and feed on low trophic levels. As a result, these fishes have become excellent candidates for aquaculture, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. Indeed, tilapia culture has been expanding rapidly, and is now practiced in more than one hundred countries worldwide.

Hi! I’m so grateful for your website. I’m a broadcaster for radio and a program manager for a business channel. I know these’ll only last as long as i’m fit to work, so instead of partying or throwing away my earnings on a new celphone, im deciding to go into business and may i say, i have a very productive time reading your entrepreneurial ideas especially about tilapia farming. We have a pool in our garden, and coming from paranaque, we have a water shortage so i have to have the water delivered. I therefore have a few questions:
1.) what kind of aerator do i need to buy? Any recommended brand? Where do i buy this?
2.) what would be the best method to grow tilapia in a pool?
3.) can i feature you as a resource person for our TV channel for SMEs?
Thank You and hoping for a speedy reply!
Great website!
@fred, as far as i know, pwede yung sinasabi mo esp. sa tubig ulan. pag galing gripo, if supplied by maynilad or manila water, you have to put de-chlorinating agent. and most importantly — kelangan mo ng pump for “aeration” para makapag produce ka ng oxygen continuously sa tubig.
puede bang buhayin ang tilapia in your own backyard?
nabubuhay kaya cla pag tubig gripo lang at ulan ang gamit?
first and foremost, congrats for being an OFW who will retire youger and richer. I’m also an OFW and planning to retire soon. I want to start a TILAPIA business in Philippines. So I wish I could find more info about it. Thanks for your informative site. God bless you.
Tilapia is one of my favorite fish, i like it than bangus(ang tinik kc eh) hehehe…
anyways thanks for all the info… i might consider tilapia as one of my aquaculture livelihood. Sabi nila mabilis lang dumami ang tilapia…
Anyone here knows where to buy good breeds of tilapia fingerlings?
and how much would be the cost for starting up?
thanks leo, hopefully NAFC will reply this time, I did inquire from SEAFDEC before, but it seems ABOT program is too big for a starter and they did not mention about RAS either in their reply, parang ang hirap makipag communicate through email, kailangan pa ata bibisita sa site nila to learn more details needed….salamat ulit…
ofwako, accessing the websites of government institutions is sometimes slow and erratic (same goes with their actual work habits.. he he) you have to be a bit patient. :) you can also inquire from:

may alam po b kyo, bout tilapia raising in tanks?medyo limited kc space ko.
@arthritisguy, search mo sa google ang keyword “tilapia philippines”
anong mga pinoy sites ba ang may guide sa tilapia raising?
here’s the link to Agree-Build-Operate-Transfer (ABOT) Aquaculture Business
http://www.mixph.com/2008/02/agree-build-operate-transfer-abot-aquaculture-business.html
you can visit the site: http://www.seafdec.org.ph meron silang ABOT program geared for entrepreneurs pero medyo malaki ang kailangan na pondon, aabutin ata ng million, at any rate, maganda sana kung mag oofer sila ng parang backyard type like aquaculture raised in cages or RAS (Recirculated Aquaculture System), in that way, anybody na may idle land of 100sq. meters and above ay maaring magkaroon na ganitong negosyo
gusto ko din maglagay ng tilapia business
hi leo,
