Mangosteen, a delectable tropical fruit, has many beneficial properties including antioxidants and xanthones, unique biological compounds that can be kill cancer cells.
Dr. James Duke, who worked for the US Department of Agriculture for 35 years, explained that antioxidants help the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, respiratory, immune, and nervous systems.
According to Duke, there are 200 known xanthones and more than 40 of these are found in the pericarp, the ripened and variously modified walls of the ovary of mangosteen.
Mangosteen juice has been credited with helping combat Parkinson’s disease, fungal and viral ailments, aging, and Alzheimer’s disease.
It is also said to prevent gum disease, hardening of the arteries, diarrhea, glaucoma, and cataract.
“Mangosteen juice in the diet can also help in weight loss and in lowering blood pressure and blood sugar,” Duke added.
