Hi. I am in the process of buying an orchard with mangoes, durians and a few other fruit bearing trees. I don’t have much idea about farming and so i would really appreciate if you can give me some advice. The farm is mostly planted with mangoes but there are lot of durians (half the number of mangoes) and other fruit bearing trees as well. What is the maximum number of mango trees you can plant per hectare? Is it advisable to have multiple fruit bearing trees together? Is it also advisable to raise pigs, goats or chickens on the orchard?

    Maraming salamat po sa advice.

Im a mango technician for 20 years na. Producing mangoes is not as easy as others may think. You have to consider so many things like the weather, humidity in the area, geographical location, pest resistance to chemicals, the possible effect of chemicals to the flowering stage, the kind of pest present in the area and the good timing for good market price. I have attended lots of mango production seminars but these are only 25% of the total knowledge we need for these business. The other 75% could only be acquired through your experience while doing these business. So i suggest to start this business w/ only a small amount of capital for u to learn.

  14. peter says:

since flower induction to harvest spans 4 months, most mango trees can only be flower-induced once a year. but timing techniques can be used to make it bear fruits two times a year, considering enough irrigation and nutrients for the trees are provided. but be cautioned that making it bear more fruits in a year can harshly alter the trees’ life cycle, eg., its leaves, making it bear less fruits the following year.

  15. Hi, I am in the process of buying a mango plantation in Bohol, Philippines…I don’t have any idea whatsoever in mango plantation, but will eventually study all about it, and would learn all about it in times…
