Internet Cafe / Shop and Online Gaming Business

April 3, 2006 by Leo   21,466 Views

Question:
I want to start a new business and I’m looking at internet cafe. Is this still a good business opportunity to start? How many months or years is the usual ROI? What do I need to set up this business? How much do I need to set up a few computers (10 -16)? Regarding softwares, I know you have to use orig microsoft OS but how about games and other software (ms office), do I have to use original? [joecas]

Answer:
I could share to you some bits and pieces of my strategy in our provincial setting. I have 2 LAN shops of 14 PCs each. One was an older group of PCs I retired from gaming and marketed for as an internet LAN shop only. The other group is on a separate location and targets gamers only. I think the key here is on lessening unnecessary expenses, having a consistent brand strategy and having a very creative promotions program that changes every time.

On lessening expenses, it is very hard to know at the start what is “unnecessary” for your area but you could observe your possible compet1t1on for this. In my case, separating the internet network and the gaming network really reduces software maintenance problems. For an internet client to run all of what he wants properly, port connections remain very open to usual attacks from the internet. So if the gaming network is mixed, the gaming experience would greatly suffer.

I placed airconditioning in the internet LAN shop and did not place anything of the gaming LAN shop. Why? because I noticed that gamers in our area prefers better computer specifications, new computer models every year for the new games released each year (performance doubles every 10 months) and exciting promotions! The only way I could fund this projects is by limiting expenses and air conditioning is a very huge one.

On our brand strategy, our customers always know that we have and can maintain the status of having the best PCs in the market of PC lan shops each and every year. We buy 6 PCs every year and using all of this strategies ROI is 0 days! Because I ask for a 3 months installment from the supplier (you could demand this when you are a big client already), and the PCs alone could earn the money for that in less than 3 months of our peak season!

I eat up the competition’s market share (we have 7 not more than 500 meters from each other) during off seasons when they have very little cash flow and they haven’t recouped investment yet. I offer 1+1, give the highest paying player for the day freebies (items i get from suppliers like ragnarok poring dolls), give very low off-peak rates, etc. this i could provide because i already recouped on the previous 3 months.

But of course this strategy can’t be used on all areas. Just study the market first and give it what it wants by saving on what it doesn’t appreciate. But most importantly, try to manage it hands on. So you would be happy with a 30k/12 PC net income of the off season especially when you don’t spend your time on it (passive income).

    RETURN ON INVESTMENT (ROI)
There are no hard and fast rules on how long will the franchisee recover the full investment made. This will depend on the foot traffic (population wise) in the locality, it will also depend on the service that the franchisee will offer to its customers. However, to give a better view of the cost and expense to be incurred before arriving at the bottom line (net profit or loss) will depend likewise on several factors such as:

    ONE-TIME EXPENSES:
    1. Cost of renovation / design of the Internet Café
    2. Cost of Mayor’s permit, barangay clearance, DTI, certificate and other government fees and taxes.

    MONTHLY EXPENSES
    1. Rent
    2. Power, light and water
    3. Telephone Bill
    4. Internet Connection
    5. Salary

All of these will be taken into consideration before deriving into the results of its year-round operation

    Example: A conservative ROI for a 6PC set-up
    Given:
Icafe opens from 9:00AM to 9:00PM (12 hours) average usage of per PC: 8 hrs x 6 computers = 48 hrs.
    Pegging per hour charge: P 20/hr x 48 hrs = 960.00/day

    Gross monthly sales = P 960.00 x 30 days = P 28, 800.00
    Less Expenses: Rent = (5, 000.00)
    Internet Connection = (4, 000.00)
    Telephone Bill = (1, 500.00)
    Salary = (4, 000.00)
    Electricity/water = (3, 000.00)
    Total expenses = (P 17, 500.00)
    Net income from PC usage/month =P 11, 300.00 x 12 mos. = P 135, 600.00
    Add: Other revenues from:
    a. Value Added Services
    b. Coffee shop or food and drinks services
    c. Scanning /printing/Xerox
    d. other revenues streams

These other revenue streams will help you attain your maximum ROI, at least from usage alone, you had recovered part of your investment which is not so bad since you still have the equipments in possession. The Value added services will play a very big portion in attaining your ROI at the soonest time possible.

    FRANCHISING PERIOD
The franchise is for two (2) year under a Local Franchise Agreement. It commences from the signing date unless otherwise rescinded prior to the full term.

    HIDDEN CHARGES
There are no hidden charges. No royalty fees to be collected.

    BANDWITH FEE
Internet connectivity is payable directly to your preferred internet provider.

To summarize all the information given. The Icafe Biz Plus franchise package is a one-stop shop internet café business center. All you have to provide is the site/location and payment. EOL takes care of everything from start-up to full operation of the business.

  5. …..I AM THANKFUL THAT I FOUND THIS SITE..I KNOW YOU CAN HELP ME IN MY BUSINESS PROPOSAL TITLED “INTERNET CAFE/SHOP AND ONLINE GAMING BUSINESS” PLS HELP ME TO HAVE A FINISH AND COMPLETE PROPOSAL…

  6. Anonymous says:

hi there people, im a marketing consultant and analyst… Huwag nting maliitin ang kita ng internet cafe, especially for rentals and gaming khit P10 or lower than that ung rate nyo, don’t complaint kasi u were the one who made those decissions para makasabay lng sa stiff competitions ng internet cafe.. well basically thats the risk of having a business.. Dont expect na laging malaki ang kita nyo or makapag-ROI kyo in a short period of time especially if u made the wrong decisions.. Also analyze your competitors before making product pricing implementation… consider this tips for competitor anlysis. 1. Are they using license software particularly OS and other games (1:1 PC hindi po 1:20) when you found that they’re using pirated and you are using licensed, report it para magsara sila saka ka magpricing ng nararapat at hindi ka ngrereklamo dyan sa mga expenses at kita mo… 2.) maganda ba ambience ng icafe nila? My aircon ba? Baka nmn mainit dyan, kung walng aircon for sure madalas mag-HANG mga PC nyan! 3.) hindi ba naghahang ung mga PC nila kasi luma na ang specs. baka year 2000 pa specs nyan like petium 3, 256 mb ung memeory etc.. 4.) DSL speed! Are they using business connectivity baka nmn for residential or nakaw lng connectivity ng mga yan! or baka nmn low speed ung inaply nila of connectivity for they’re several PCs and tendency mabagal din speed nun! 5.) consider also your business add-ons and Value added services (VAS) para dagdag kita sa inyo (note: hindi mapapansin VAS nyo kung hindi dahil sa basic business nyo which is internet cafe! VAS do help to increase foot traffic in your internet cafe and vice versa) 6.) talagang skit sa ulo yan kung hindi mahaba ang pasensya mo.. eto problema maeencounter mo sa icafe: virus and malware attacks, pilferage, hold-up etc. especially kung wala kang systema, training and support and wala kang dedikasyon at hindi marunong mgnage ing icafe.. e dont expect na hindi skit sa ulo yan at kikita ka ng Malaki… KAYA KUNG AKO SA INYO KUNG MGPUPUT-UP KYO NG GANITONG BUSINESS MAGFRANCHISE NALaNG KYO! Doon sa may napatunayan na at MURA pa ung franchise at all-out- support pa.. Konti lng skit sa ulo, insured pa mga PC, my training, VAS, technical AND marketing support at FREE BUSINESS CONSULTANCY PA… try nyo EVERYTHING ONLINE ICAFE BIZ PLUS meron pa silang financing.. VISIT http://www.everythingonline.ph Contact Authorized agents of Everything Online! Beware of unauthorized agents! (note: if 100k investment mo for Icafe magfranchise ka nlng ng siomai or hongkong noodles kasi hindi sapat yan for Internet cafe business.. )

I owned a computer shop for 3 years olredy, pero income ko a month only ranging from 9,000, FOR ME IT IS NOT ADVISABLE FOR PUT UP A COMPUTER SHOP or INTERNET CAFE, all your income mapupunta lang sa upgrade. I had 18PCs na pero, dahil sa may nagoofer pa ng 10 pesos, taas pa ng kuryente, halos ala ng napupunta sa akin, kaya lang naman kmi nagsurvive ng 3 years e dahil sa mabilis kming mag-encode,gawa me ng research at most of all, THESIS. Kaya dumami computers ko dahil sa mga other services na yan, hindi dahil sa internet at gaming, kaya ako if nakaipon ako, I will put up a lending company instead of computer shop, hirap i-maintain, kailangan ka pang pumasok ng linggo ksi sayang na humabol sa pambayad mo, nagrerenta pa ako, 33k-35k ang monthly expenses ko, hindi sa dinidiscourage ko kayo people, this is base on my experience na up to now hirap pa rin ako magbudget, lalo na kapag summer, hay naku ang baba ng sales andayng 200 lang sales ko daily sa games at internet, di ka maniwala?? totoo!promise!

The Internet Cafe Business can be a great source of income. These days, however, the competition is quite stiff. Best bet is to find a very good location.

kiniligkaba, kung malapit ka sa viramall greenhills or recto, pwede ka magtanong ng mga latest games dun mismo sa mga nagtitinda. you can opt for a pirated muna, pero mas ok sana kung licensed para walang sabit in case may mag raid.

    Eu-Leh Says: 7/24/2006 08:28:00 AM

If you’re planning to start with 10 PC, 200K won’t be enough. An average pc specs used for internet and gaming will cost you around 18-20K alone. You still have to consider other fixtures and equipment like renovation of place, A/C, tables & chairs, printer, scanner, etc.

What about the place, do yo own the it? If yes, then you save a significant amount for the cost of rent (around 5-10K monthly depending on your location). Add the cost for all necessary permits, DSL connection, electric bill, phone bill.

I think your safe bet will be 400-500K if you really want to start with 10PC. The balance for pre-operation expenses will be enough as your buffer fund for the first few months of actual operation.

Dati may internet cafe na ako pero hindi pa uso ang online gaming. Gusto ko bumalik sa negosyo ng internet cafe with maybe 11PC’s. 1 will serve as a server and 10Pc’s for gaming etc.

Maraming nag-oofer ng internet cafe business. Ang pinagpipilian ko ay dalawa.

Ano kaya mas ok pasukan sa dalawa? Please help me.

    Hi Mon,

I checked both links you gave, and I guess SmartBro/PLDT myDSL offered a better deal than EOL. But if you have the technical know-how and the cash in hand to start the internet business with at least 10PC, you will save a significant amount of money if you do it on your own. What makes PLDT and EOL interesting is that they’re offering the internet set-up on installment basis with value added services.

Before committing, check all the advantages and disadvantages of both offer. Better to make full inquiries on both.

    Regards.

Before going into this Icafe business please consider these:
    1. Very Stiff competition. As low as P10 per hour or much lower depende saan banda ka sa Pilipinas.
    2. Computers are not all the same. There are gaming PC’s which are much more expensive than just for Internet. In short you must understand the technical complicacies of computers.
    3. Computers needs maintenance. Kung wala ka alam lokohin ka lang nang technician mo.
    4. High Investment cost. High depreciation cost. If you cannot recover 50% of your capital within 18months then you are in trouble.

Marami nagbukas dyan pero marami na rin nag sara na. Pero ako I’m in this business for 5years now because I know what I’m doing.

You also need to invest sa original software (specially if your in manila) Daming mga buwisit na nagpapanggap na taga NBI asking if you have original softwares (per pc), XP License and Office License among others.

HI! Im a govt employee who’s planning internet cafe business. The place is in the heart of the city where there are 3 existing internet cafes. However, the 3 competitors have low end pcs where frequent lagged down are experienced by gamers and has very poor ventilation. The business I’ll be taking over on March 18, is a former computer shop/supplies and offers only internet usage. PCs were no longer upgraded hence, the owner finally decided to vacate the place. The rental fee of the place is 13,500 with mezzanine and the whole place can accommodated even 2O PCs, and is a good place for xerox copier, Eloading for cps, computer supplies. Please give me advise if internet cafe business would be still profitable on the said location.

Hi there! Great info from other readers. This gives me some ideas on how to start an internet cafe business which I am planning next year after the completion of the apartment we are going to build soon and this is exclusively for students only since my property is just accross the street where the high school and college is located. Do you think this business is going to give me good profit although there is one existing internet cafe in town already by far away from school. Need your advice. Thanks
