For us in Nueva Ecija area, prospective buyers would usually come from Urdaneta Pangasinan. They visit Nueva Ecija area once in a while. I believe there is an “oksyon” site in Urdaneta for Livestocks. Sometimes also if we really need to sell a cattle, we brought it to Urdaneta. Normally the selling price is based on “tantyahan” basis. You should have a handler that is “expert” at marunong talagang tumingin ng baka. Yes normally there is a document that comes along with the cattle when you buy it from someone.

Hi R. Estrada,

Normally the common breeds available is usually Brahman or Ongole/Nellore. The good thing about brahman breeds is it is highly tolerant to heat and resistant to insects and diseases.

Hi to all,
I’m also planning to venture in cattle raising.A lot of tips has been written with regards to this except for the following:
1. Who are the prospect buyers?
2. How do you determine the selling price? Do you measure its weight “kinikilo or tantyahan” basis?
3. Is there any document necessary to prove ownership? Kailangan pa ba or pwedeng wala na?

For a starter cattle raiser, what breed do you recommend?

Please advise.

Jane, normally that’s how it works on the profit sharing (Luzon area). It’s on alternate basis. Yeah it’s advisable if you have a bull of your own specially if the breed is of good quality.

@wilson you can always do backyard cattle raising specially if you don’t have allocated space. You can assign somebody to be responsible for the cattle or distribute it among individuals in your area and have an agreement on how to split the profit.

I am here abroad and planning to have a cattle business. I would like to know how much is the cost of a calf in the Philippines at Luzon area? Can they put my name in the bill of sale even i’m not there? I’m planning to buy three for now, do you prefer all females or 2 female and one male? I have somebody to take care of this calf, what is the best way to share profits? His condition is that he wants me to have the first baby and won’t split with the sale if I decided to sell it but he said the next time this calf have a baby, it will be his. It’s like alternate owning of babies. I don’t know which works best. I need your advice before I start this business.
